About the Client

Florence & Hutcheson, Inc., acquired in 2010 by Infrastructure Corporation of America (ICA) is an award winning, multi-disciplinary civil and transportation engineering firm. ICA Engineering has over 300 professionals in 13 offices across the southeast.

The Challenge

With increasing requirement of sites for every project, the IT Team had to design and develop sites over and over again for every project, which was a tedious task. Moreover, the same look-and-feel had to be maintained, but with customization provided by the project manager. They were thus in need of a centralized collaboration portal with project management features.

The following challenges were to be achieved:

- Collaboration Portal with custom branding

- Project site creation per the request

- Project management application and including a Helpdesk for site creation requests

- Custom Search for the records

The Solution

An on premise SharePoint 2013 based solution was developed to meet the above mentioned objectives.

Network architecture was designed for installation and configuring of SharePoint 2013. As per best practices, SharePoint with its SQL Servers, App-Tiers, WFEs, SSRS and other components were configured, keeping in mind their future growth. User Profile Services and Search Services were also configured to meet their search functionality.

For a consistent look and feel across the intranet and to match their Public Facing Site, a custom site template was developed, which contained all the OOTB apps like lists, document libraries, etc. and other pages and components. In the template, the application pages were configured with the visual web parts and the links in top-navigation and side-navigation.

For site creation requests, a help desk was developed for Project managers to submit requests along with the required details. Upon approval of such requests, a site was created by IT using the custom site template developed.

Once the site is created, Project manager would be notified accordingly and they could now start using the site for management of their respective projects.

The end result, thus was a fully functional intranet portal with collaboration and project management capabilities built on SharePoint 2013.
